Pothole Repair
Potholes develop over time when damage to the asphalt layer allows water intrusion into the gravel layer. The water breaks down the supporting gravel layer allowing more damage to the asphalt layer. In short, once the substrate gravel layer is exposed, the damage spreads and becomes a pothole.
To fix a pothole, we first cleanout the area, removing loose gravel and asphalt. Next, we repair the gravel base to provide a strong support layer. Finally, we fill the hole with hot pour asphalt and smooth it over for seamless repair.
Crack Filling
Cracks in asphalt allow water to penetrate to the gravel substrate layer. As a result, the gravel layer erodes and is unable to support the asphalt layer above. Over time, the crack will grow in size and eventually become a pothole. We fill cracks with injection and hot pour asphalt sealing the asphalt layer so the gravel layer below is protected.
Slurry Seal
A slurry seal is made from a mixture of water, asphalt emulsion, aggregate (very small crushed rock), and additives. Polymer is commonly added to the asphalt emulsion to provide better mixture properties. This mixture is applied over an existing layer with low to moderate damage and some cracking. As a result, the slurry seal provides an additional layer of protection while filling any cracks.
